What is the Vienna Secession?
Formed by a group Austrian artists in 1897, who had resigned from the Association of Austrian Artists, this particular movement included painters, sculptors and architects. The first president of this organization was Gustav Klimt. Secession artists were primarily concerned with exploring the possibilities of art outside the confines of academic tradition. They desired to create a new style that owed nothing to historical influence.
